FAQs

I have a puppy and I'm anxious to leave them alone for their first groom, can I stay?

Dogs are a lot like children and they know how to push their parents boundaries! So unless we specifically ask you to remain in the salon and help, please don't stay.
Seeing their parents near but out of reach can make dogs anxious and restless trying to get to you for cuddles and comfort, which makes it difficult and dangerous to groom them. For this reason, we request that you please keep yourself out of sight of your dog while they are being groomed. We know you might be curious or just want to hang around with your favourite little friend, but with the sharp equipment we use we really need their full attention to keep them safe. That doesn't mean you can't stay close by! We want YOU to feel comfortable, too, so please feel free to wait outside the salon or near (like in your car), as long as it is out of sight.

What age can my puppy be groomed?

As soon as your puppy has received all their vaccinations, they are ready for their first groom!! We understand that this is a big and exciting, but sometimes scary, step for your puppy, so we have our own special Puppy Groom available. We want to introduce your pup to the grooming process in a gentle and friendly way, that makes it fun and safe for them before we start doing full grooms.
There are a couple of things you can do at home before your puppy is old enough for a groom that will really help the whole process!! We have a helpful section
here if you would like to find out more. This is a frequently asked question?

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

My dog is in heat, can you still groom her?

Here at Studio 50 Paw, we don’t groom dogs in heat for a couple of reasons:

Just like us humans, dogs experience extra physical sensitivity and mood swings! A normally docile dog can feel very defensive and start snapping. Having to stand, let someone get up close and personal and shuffle them around for accessibility during this time is extremely uncomfortable, risky, and sometimes even painful. This all makes for one very unhappy puppy who is not going to look forward to their next groom! The pheromones a dog releases when on heat hang around and can aggravate other dogs that are coming in for a groom - especially male dogs - which makes it difficult to keep our customers happy and calm during their visit.
We want to guarantee a safe, clean and comfortable groom for your dog AND our groomers, too! That's hard to do when there's blood everywhere.

My dog has a cough, what should I do?

Bordetella (bacterial kennel cough) and Parainfluenza (viral kennel cough) are extremely contagious viruses that no one wants their dog to have to go through! To minimise the risk of spreading infection, we ask that you wait until your dog has fully recovered before bringing them in.

Please let us know immediately so that we can reschedule your appointment, and please contact a qualified vet or veterinary nurse for treatment. We hope your dog feels better soon!!

Will my animal be kept in a cage?

It is very unlikely, and we will always do our best to keep our customers out and about, but there are a few times when we might need to use a crate.
Some animals like to be right there by your side and under your feet, meaning they could get stood on or hurt. We know you don't want your dog in one, but to ensure the safety of the other pets, our customers and our groomers, crates are sometimes necessary. Some dogs (males) like to scent mark, and as much as we do out best to eliminate any oders and pheromones, male dogs who arent desexed can still relentlessly scent mark and make need to be crated to help stop them from doing so.
Don't worry! We make sure all appointments are scheduled so that
any crate time will be at an absolute minimum.

If your animal has any issues at all being crated, just let us know before your appointment and we will accommodate as much as we possibly can for them!

What happens if my pet has fleas?

Anyone who has ever had head lice knows first hand just how irritating, stubborn and quick-to-spread they are. They're an absolute nightmare!!
In the case that your dog does have fleas, please please please do not bring your animal into the salon until they have undergone and completed flea treatment.

If we discover that your animal has fleas during their appointment, we will complete the groom, but we will have to charge an extra fee for the clean down. Much like your hairdresser discovers you have lice, we have to spend extra time making sure we disinfect and clean the salon to ensure the protection of our other customers and staff!
We do not provide flea treatments at our salon! We know that it is in the best interest for you and your animal to talk to a qualified vet or veterinary nurse. They will provide the best information and treatment options for you!
